Jacobites announce 2009-2010 Season
Audiences from Venice to Bradenton are being treated this coming season to the unique sounds of the Jacobites, an entertaining musical group featuring bagpipes, dancers, percussion, fiddlers, guitarists and vocalists. Their music varies from Beethoven to Van Halen in addition to traditional pipe and drum music.

“The music series opens with “Summer Ceilidh,” September 5th, a social gathering where people eat, drink, dance and make music. It is hosted by Firkin and Fox, The Jacobites and The St. Andrews Society,” said Jacobite Pipe Major Gary Reinstrom. “By starting our season with a ceilidh (pronounced kaylee) and Scotch tasting, we set the tone of the Jacobites. We are a fun, music loving group that encourages musicians as well as the audience to join us and have fun at our performances.”

St. Marks Episcopal Church of Venice hosts the Jacobites November 20th for “Celtic Autumn,” a celebration of the harvest in the Celtic lands of Scotland, Ireland, Brittany and Spain. This is a free concert in a series that Music Director Virginia Koepkey started to introduce the community to this very special sanctuary.

“We’ve been asked by The Artists Series of Sarasota to perform a small portion of a Concert entitled “Sounds of Christmas” at the Historic Asolo December 18th -20th .” said Reinstrom. “Collaborating with this group is a truly an honor.”

February 21st brings the Jacobites to one of Sarasota’s most beautiful places of worship: Siesta Key Chapel. “You are literally up in the trees,” said Reinstrom. “The walls are glass and the acoustics compliment the incredible playing of their music director, Cynthia Roberts-Greene who will be performing with us.”

Faith Lutheran Church hosts the Jacobites for their April 18th “Tartan Spring” performance. “Tartan Day, the official day celebrating the Scots contribution to the United States, falls on Tuesday, April 6th, so we decided to extend the celebration to all of Spring,” said Reinstrom. “We are encouraging all audience members to wear their tartans to this exciting event which will include Kirkin’(or Blessing) of the Tartans.”

“John Ferreira at Church of the Palms reminds me of my very best music teachers. He knows his music inside and out, and yet he makes it so much fun!” said Reinstrom. “It is a joy to be able to close our season with John at our 4th annual Memorial Day Concert on May 30th at Church of the Palms.”

The Jacobites also teach pipes, drums and dance. For more information visit their website at www.jacobitesband.com or call 350-0271.
