Great Show

We had a great show for Jim Roberts Jims originals and prints are selling off of the walls and we are getting more to replace them soon. The blue fin tuna original actually sold before the show opened. it is refreshing to see that even with the economy the way it is that people still can buy and enjoy art! My wife Stephanie and I wish you all a happy new…

Cliff Roles' Talk of the Sun Coast: News, Previews, Reviews and The Best Guests on Radio!

Morning Everyone!

This being my final newsletter of the year, I've taken the liberty of including some photos that I shot over the past few days of smiling, happy faces to accompany us into a Brand New Sarasota Year.

It's been a very busy season, so maybe you haven't heard me say it much lately, and I don't bring you flowers as often as I should, but:

I love living in…

Shinedown music Video

I was lucky enough to know the right people and then fortunate enough to be cast as the father in the video. Annette Breazele first told me of a video shoot here in our area and then I got a call from Terry"T-Bone" Rhodes. The experience was fantastic from start to finish, we have alot of talented people here and it's nice when someone comes along and takes advantage of what our locale has to offer. The shoot took place on Anna Maria Island on my birthday, and I got paid!!! It's my first real… Continue

Cheney's number one!

One percent of those questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey said that Dick Cheney is the best vice president in American history.

So let's look at some of the former veeps whom these Intellectual Giants think were inferior to Cheney:

  • John Adams
  • Thomas Jefferson
  • Theodore Roosevelt
  • Harry Truman

Three former Vice Presidents have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, but I guess that's somewhat less of a… Continue

The hidden message in "It's a Wonderful Life"

(SPOILER ALERT!)

So....

I've been watching (as I suspect many of us have) It's a Wonderful Life, that great Christmas classic starring (sigh) Donna Reed and...er...some other people....and I was struck by something I'd never considered before despite having seen the film scores of times.

At the end, Donna Reed's husband's friends all chip in to help replace the $8,000 that Donna Reed's uncle-in-law had mistakenly given… Continue

A Daughter's Dance Brings Dad Joy

From Scott Simon's essay on NPR's Weekend Edition Saturday:

Our 5-year-old daughter is a ballet jock. Elise keeps her pink leotard and ballet slippers on after class, when she has an ice cream cone — two scoops and extra sprinkles when she's with me, some diet for a ballerina — and often wears her dance clothes to bed.

This passage particularly resonated with me:

But Ms. Kramer, who loves… Continue

Florida Studio Theatre announces 2009 Stage III season

From art to our cultural viewpoints, the Stage III season offers diverse thought in a changing world. Florida Studio Theatre's Stage III season begins January 14, 2009 at the Gompertz Theatre.

Kicking off the 2009 season is Edward Albee's Occupant, which examines the life of acclaimed American sculptor Louise Nevelson. Solo 'Life' triggers memories at Asolo

Frank Capra's 1947 film "It's a Wonderful Life" is as much a part of the American celebration of Christmas as Santa Claus and decorated trees. It is ingrained in our memories more than we may realize.

'Little Women' grows into musical

By Jay Handelman

Published: Sunday, December 7, 2008

Most young girls share a common experience in reading Louisa May Alcott's perennially popular novel "Little Women." And it's no surprise that the stars and director of a musical version of that book recall it as one of their childhood favorites.…

The University of North Carolina, a state university, has recently banned official displays of Christmas trees. I recently read a blog post decrying that decision and asking, "What could be more American than a Christmas tree in December?"

The answer to that question would seem to be obvious: "The First Amendment".

Too many people seem to think that the Bill of Rights -- especially the First Amendment -- contains the phrase, "Unless you really want to."

It… Continue
