Profile Information

Occupation
Professional Writing & Playwriting (Former Newspaper & Magazine Journalist, & Photographer - 30 years)
A little about me (so that you know I am a real person and not a spammer!)
Before my disability, I was the former police reporter and photographer at the North Port edition of The Charlotte Sun, and have more than 30 years of journalism experience. I was also was the former president of the Florida Press Club, where I spent 3 years on its board of directors, two of those years as president.

I was once a member of the Dramatist Guild, after the production of my adaptation of the poem "The Pied Piper Of Hamlin" into a children's musical during the mid 1980's. I have several plays that are in the writing stages, and a couple more in planning and research. I love to write about historical events, and putting them on stage provides a unique experience that an audience cannot get from watching a film.

I have won many awards from both the Florida Press Association and the Florida Press Club, including the FPC 2005 Francis DeVore Award for Public Service. I am also a 2005 Pulitzer finalist for my contribution as a photographer for the Charlotte Sun's coverage of Hurricane Charley (Breaking News category).

I started my writing and photography career freelancing for the Rockland Journal News in Nyack, N.Y. I also freelanced for the New York Post (still do), New York Daily News, The Village Voice, and wrote magazine articles for Field and Stream and Tennis Match magazines.

I left the industry in the 1980s and spent six years in law enforcement as an auxiliary police officer and then a full-time police officer. I also spent two years as a military policeman in the U.S. Army.

I moved to Sarasota in 1997, and started freelancing for Getty Images, the New York Post, the Bradenton Herald, E! Online, ASA Racing's Actionline Newspaper, Minneapolis Star Tribune, The Knight Foundation, Canadian Television Network, and Oldies 108 Web site. I was known to listeners as "The G-Man," a name given to me by Christina Crane.

In 2003, I took a staff position as the photo editor of the Venice Gondolier Sun. I transferred to the Charlotte Sun to work as a photographer for their North Port paper, and jumped into reporting, where I first covered the city beat.

My dream is to start both a playwriting workshop that helps new writers, and to establish a "History Theatre," where all productions (new or established) are based in real life or real life places. When I am ready to unveil my plans, I will post a Web site here with the details. And if anyone is interested in helping me out, just drop me a line.
