Is anybody administering this site? I posted a blog post three days ago, but it's still "awaiting approval." How long does that take? The subject may be old news before too long.

I find this site very hard to navigate through and I guess I really don't understand what it can do. I guess you can't add a discussion unless you have a facebook account. My facebook account was stolen along with a few million weekly. I can no longer get into, change, add, delete to my facebook account. I was hoping it was a venue to reach, chat, and share with other artists, but it seems just a way to get more friends on your facebook and twitter acounts. It also seems that we artists cannot reach other artists without going through facebook or twitter.

I read with concern the recent letter by the Concertmaster of the Sarasota Orchestra regarding the current situation with the Orchestra and its musicians.

Although June La Belle has made a valiant effort through many classes, I still don’t know the difference between F flat and B sharp, but I do know the recent performance of the Orchestra and of the solo members of the Orchestra who performed at the newly renovated Opera House left me humming (off key) to myself in delight for sometime after. It was a joy to listen to.

I know these are difficult times for the Orchestra and for all of us but I would urge the Management of the Orchestra to “dig a little deeper” and make every effort to insure these fine musicians are fairly treated in the contract negotiations. We must make every possible effort to insure this gem we have is not tarnished.

Sincerely yours,

WSLR Presents EMEFE, Afrobeat band from New York

EMEFE has only one intention: to play music that frees everybody in the audience and everybody in the band. The band was created by drummer Miles Arntzen in 2009 to explore and share the Afrobeat music pioneered in the 1970s and 80s by Fela Anikulapo Kuti and carried on today by Antibalas. Likewise, EMEFE draws heavy influence from the funk music of Sly Stone, James Brown and Earth Wind and Fire, as well as hip-hop and neo-soul…
