Kathy Surowka enjoyed growing up in the suburbs of New Jersey across the road from a small farm that raised exotic birds, turtles and plants in the 1950’s and 1960’s giving her a deeper insightful appreciation for the natural world. This experience and living here in Florida with the beautiful flora and fauna has influenced her art. Both her parents were creative, contributing to her skills in art and design. After a successful business career in New York City, Kathy realized her lifetime dream of relocating to Sarasota.
Kathy has continued to hone her skills in sculpture, pottery, jewelry design, and painting. She is presently a member and student of the Venice Art Center and her work is sold at a prestigious gallery in Venice and in Sarasota, FL.
Kathy’s pottery/sculpture is one of a kind, hand built and designed for decorative use. All glazes are food safe and dishwasher safe.

My Interests & Hobbies
My passion is doing my scultural pottery, I also enjoy, movies, theatre attending art shows, museums, gallaries and I love to read mystery novels. What I value in my work, is the entire process of hand built pottery and how it is expressed in me. It is a combination of my inner rhythms and sensitivity to nature and I have a passion for Native American Pottery which strongly influences me to create potterywith a very contemporary twist. I do feel a oneness with the clay; just knowing my DNA is transferring into my creation from my palms and fingers is exhilarating to me.
As my pieces evolve from a lump of clay, I see them as a continuum of my personality, which is the spirituality, and spontaneity of my work, resulting in a uniquely finished piece reflecting my love for natural beauty, spectacular color, and sculptural perfection.
